The Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) was founded, in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Law No. (22) for 1997 and registered with the register of public companies on February 12, 1998 under No. (335) with a capital of ten million dinars, where the government owns (75%) and the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) owns (25%) divided into equal shares with a nominal value of one JD per share.
Vision To excel in providing electric energy for consumers, and to upgrade the company’s performance to reach optimal productivity standards and attain relevant financial revenues.
Mission To sustain and consolidate the electricity system to meet the increasing demand for electric energy, provide consumers with electric service of high reliability and supply this service with the optimal degrees of efficiency and quality for the most suitable price.
The geographic sites & workforces
At the end of 2012, the number of staff in the head offices at Amman has reached (227) employees. The activities of the company are covering the governorates of: Karak, Tafilah, Ma'an, Aqaba and Jordan Valley (from Al-Himmeh, in the north, all the way down to the Dead Sea in the South) and in the Eastern areas (Rweished, Reesha, Azraq, and Safawi).
The Quantity of electric power sold in 2012 was (2491.688) GWH in a value of (187.566) million JD with an increase of (5.5%) of the energy sold in 2011; while the percentage increase in the sold value was (26.5%) because of tariff amendment on 28/5/2012 and on 5/6/2012.
The outage rate of the electric system of the company during 2012 was (13.2) hours/ consumer compared to (13.4) hours/consumer during 2011. The outages rate includes the outages types (scheduled, unscheduled, third party and external). The figure below shows the Company outages rates during the years (2007-2012).
